For many pilgrims and their families, Mohammed V is an airport they have never seen. Perhaps you live in France, Belgium or Canada and are meeting your parents there before an Umrah trip. Perhaps you are the in-law or the friend who has offered to do the airport run. Either way, the first question is usually the same: which building?
This page answers it as far as the sources allow. The short version is that there is one dated official statement for international flights, a well-documented arrangement for Hajj flights, and a few gaps that only your ticket can fill.
What is Terminal One at Casablanca airport?
Terminal 1 is the Mohammed V terminal inaugurated on 22 January 2019, with 76,000 m² of floor space and a capacity of about 7 million passengers a year5. With it, the airport's total capacity rose to 14 million passengers a year5.
Those figures date from the opening. We have no source on how the terminal is used today, terminal by terminal and airline by airline, so we do not describe its halls, desks or gates. The airport's own signs and the departure screens are the reliable guide once you are there.
Which terminal handles international flights?
The last official statement we found comes from ONDA itself, and it is several years old. On 7 May 2021, ONDA moved all international flights at Mohammed V from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, according to ONDA (May 2021 statement); check the terminal on your ticket or with the airline1. In the same statement, ONDA said the other terminal could reopen once traffic returned to normal.
We have not found any later source that confirms which terminal handles flights to Saudi Arabia today. So we do not tell you which building your Umrah flight leaves from: a statement that old cannot confirm anything about a flight booked for this winter.
What to do instead:
In order
- Look at the e-ticket or booking confirmation. If it names a terminal, that is your starting point.
- If it does not, ask the airline or the person who booked the trip a few days before departure.
- On the day, check the departure screens as soon as you enter the airport, before queuing anywhere.
For the full departure day, from leaving home to the gate, see our guide to leaving for Umrah from Mohammed V airport.
Which terminal is used for the Hajj?
In each Hajj season we have sources for, ONDA set Terminal 3 aside for Hajj flights1073. The arrangement is documented season by season:
| Season | Set-up reported |
|---|---|
| Hajj 2023 | ONDA assigned Terminal 3 to Hajj flights10. |
| Hajj 2024 | ONDA dedicated Terminal 3 entirely to Hajj flights by Royal Air Maroc, flynas and Saudia, with the Makkah Route in its 3rd year7. |
| Hajj 2026 | ONDA fully adapted Terminal 3, with dedicated areas from the outside access points, specific signage and information points3. |
Two things follow for families. First, a Hajj pilgrim does not start from the same building as other passengers that week, and the signs from the outside access points are meant to lead them there3. Second, this set-up applies to Hajj, not to regular Umrah flights3. A parent leaving for Umrah in winter or during Ramadan should not head for Terminal 3 because a relative went there for Hajj3.
Terminal 3 is also where the Makkah Route operates, the Saudi scheme that lets Hajj pilgrims complete entry formalities before boarding; for Hajj 2026 it was in its 5th year there3. The details are in our page on Hajj departure day at the Hajj terminal.
What the Hajj terminal handles outside the season is not stated in any source we found, so we leave it at that.
Where is the train station?
According to ONDA, the airport's railway station is reached from the arrivals hall and has ticket offices and self-service machines; for connections, timetables and fares, ONDA refers travellers to oncf.ma8.
That matters on both legs of the trip. On the way out, a pilgrim arriving by train starts on the arrivals side and then has to find departures. On the way back, a tired parent with luggage can reach the station from the arrivals hall, as ONDA describes it.
ONDA's description does not say which terminal's arrivals hall the station opens onto, and we have not been able to check it. If you are meeting someone, agree in advance on one simple meeting point that you will both recognise, such as the station ticket offices.
For train times, the Aérobus and luggage on public transport, read getting to and from CMN by train or Aérobus. If you are still choosing a flight, our page on direct flights from Casablanca to Jeddah and Medina sets out which carriers the sources name.
How should a first-time visitor use this?
Treat the terminal as something to confirm, not to remember. The Hajj terminal is the one clear, repeated arrangement in the sources; for every other flight, the ticket and the airport screens take priority over anything written here, including this page.
If an older parent is travelling alone, write the terminal from the ticket, the flight number and the departure time on a card they can show to airport staff. That is a small step, and it does not depend on any rule we cannot source.
Not confirmed yet
- Which terminal currently handles flights to Saudi Arabia: the latest source we found is ONDA's statement on moving international flights.
- Whether the terminal that ONDA emptied of international flights has since reopened, and for which flights.
- What the Hajj terminal is used for outside the Hajj season.
- Which arrivals hall the railway station opens onto, and how far it is from each departures area.
- Whether the same Hajj set-up will be repeated next season: nothing has been announced.
