If a parent or grandparent is flying to Hajj from Casablanca, the family's questions on the day are practical: where to drop them, what time to arrive, how far you can walk with them. This page gathers what published sources say about leaving from the Hajj terminal at Mohammed V (CMN), and says plainly where they stop.
It is written for families, often a son or daughter who lives abroad and is organising things from a distance. At the Hajj terminal some pilgrims also complete Saudi entry formalities before boarding, under the Makkah Route; the scheme itself, who it covers and what it does not, is explained once for all of Morocco in guideomra.ma's Makkah Route explainer. Here we stay at the airport.
Which terminal do Hajj pilgrims leave from?
Terminal 3, in both recent seasons we have sources for31. For Hajj 2024, ONDA dedicated it entirely to Hajj flights operated by Royal Air Maroc, flynas and Saudia3. For Hajj 2026, it fully adapted the terminal again, with dedicated areas from the outside access points, specific signage and information points1.
For the family, this changes the drop-off point. Do not drive to the terminal you used for a previous Umrah or a family visit out of habit: look for the Hajj signs from the moment you approach the airport. If someone gets lost, the information points are the first place to ask.
The terminal for the next season has not been announced. Ask the organiser to confirm it in writing a few days before the flight, and share the answer with everyone who is coming. For how the airport's terminals are used the rest of the year, see Casablanca airport terminals explained.
How do you get to the Hajj terminal?
By car is simplest for an older parent with heavy bags: one relative drops the pilgrim off and drives the others home. Without a car, the airport train and the Aérobus are covered in our page on reaching CMN by train or Aérobus.
One caution: our sources do not describe the walk from the station or the bus stop to the Hajj terminal. Leave extra time for that last stretch, especially with a wheelchair or a heavy suitcase.
What time should you arrive?
No reporting time for Hajj flights is published in our sources. The pilgrim receives it from the organiser of the trip, and that is the time that counts, not the usual advice for an ordinary flight.
Once you have it, work backwards: travel time from home, a margin for traffic, and time to say goodbye. Relatives flying in from abroad should plan to land the day before rather than the same morning.
What happens before boarding?
At Terminal 3, some pilgrims complete Saudi entry formalities before the flight under the Makkah Route, which was in its 5th year at Mohammed V for Hajj 20261. The first covered flight that season was scheduled for 7 May 20264.
The practical consequence for the family is simple: the time inside the terminal may be longer than for an ordinary departure, because one step of the arrival is done in Casablanca. Pack water, the parent's medication in the cabin bag, and a charged phone.
What the sources do not describe: the order of the desks, what the pilgrim shows at each step, how long it takes, or which flights are covered. Ask the organiser for the instructions and make sure your parent has them on paper as well as on a phone.
Who travels with an older parent?
For Hajj 1448, older applicants had to register with a family member aged 50 or under who was physically able to accompany them throughout the pilgrimage, according to the Habous ministry5. So the family at the airport is often seeing off two travellers, not one. Give the companion a copy of every document, the family's phone numbers and the organiser's contact before the day.
Where do you say goodbye?
No source says how far relatives may accompany a pilgrim inside the Hajj terminal. The safest plan is a goodbye at the entrance unless you are told otherwise.
In order
- Agree on the meeting point for the goodbye before leaving home, so nobody searches for each other in the crowd.
- Choose one contact person who stays reachable all day and keeps the group leader's number.
- Plan the trip home for older relatives and children who came to the airport: it is often a tired, late journey.
- Keep a copy at home of the organiser's instructions: time, terminal, contact.
Questions about the rites of Hajj are not logistics: ask an imam or a scholar your family trusts. If your parent has not yet secured a place, the publisher of this site has written Wiki Tours' explainer on Hajj registration through an agency; this page does not cover registration.
What if my parent is going on Umrah?
Then none of this applies: the Hajj terminal set-up is for Hajj, not for regular Umrah flights1. Your parent leaves from the terminal on the ticket, and the guide you need is leaving for Umrah from Mohammed V airport.
